1. What do the words thesis and dissertation, mean?


Dissertation: It is an oral presentation, a treatise advancing a new point of view resulting from research.

Thesis: an unproved statement put forward as a premise in an argument. it is usually required in order to get an advanced academic degree

2. What is the difference between a thesis and a dissertation?

The dissertation: It is presentation wich can be presented in front of public and it is a proved idea wich is presented to the people.

The thesis: It is a written document wich can be presented in front of people. but is not an idea already proved. it's your idea that have to be proved and have to convinced the people.

3. List 10 components of a thesis.

4. Define the following terms:

a. Title page: Very important it has to be not to long and not too short. it gives wveryone the idea of your speaking.

b. Abstract: It is the brief summary of your thesis it has to be very clear and concise so that the public can understand inmediately your idea.

c. Table of contents: It organizes by numbering all the contents of the thesis. so that the parts of the problem can be cleared exposed.

d. Annotated bibliography: they are links so that you can get further information of certain topics seen in the thesis.

e. Introduction: An overview of the contents of the thesis.



5. What is a style guide?

It is a standards format for the presentation of theses wich is recommended to candidates to have a look and follow it when they are preparing a thesis.

6. What is an examining committee?

they are the members of the jury wich evaluate the oral thesis presentation.


7. In Canada, How many pages is the average undergraduate thesis?

approximately 75 pages.



8. What are the 4 verdicts, you can receive on your thesis?


Accepted.

The thesis must be revised.

Extensive revision required.

Unacceptable.


9. What is a thesis committee?

Advisers of the student who is going to present his thesis.

10. Describe the process of submission of the thesis?

This is the last requirement after the defence.the student have to submit a copy of his thesis to the appropriate body within the accepting institution


11. Define the term, thesis statement.

it is the key sentence of the student’s paper on the basis of which a research is done. wich will be presented in no more than two sentences.


12. Now that you've answered these questions, do you feel that writing a thesis will be hell?

If you follow the instruction properly it will be no hell. besides is our responsability to investigate and ask our teacher the corresponding questions.

There are many things in this life that I want to change, so I think they must be done in other place that differs from this one. it can be anypart of the world the only requirements are that it has to be a peaceful, relaxed, nice, warm place.

Reading Assignment #2/ Composition/Writers






1. What are some of the fears these highly successful writers have about writing?

Sometimes they don't know how express some ideas, so they have to write them again and again. Furthermore when they start writing the book, they don't know if the book will be or not succefull.


2. What are some of the difficulties they have when they are writing?

they have to finish the book before the dead line.
also when they have to read the entire book before going to the copy editor. usually because the don't have time.

3. What are some of the positive aspects to writing?

they have plenty of time to investigate therefore They are constanly improving their creativity and developing new great ideas.



4. Do you feel these authors enjoy being writers? Why?

Obviously, they find writing is one of the most pleasure in life because they can transmit their feelings through lines.

5. Is reading an important facet of writing? Why?

Yes, because it will make you more open-minded. so you'll be more crativity and you will earn more style if you want to write something.


6. In your opinion, what are the 3 most important things which will make your writing successful?


Creativity wich can be obtained during my life, clear ideas wich i'll represent in the book, and patience.

A: It was invented as a result of the growing needs to explain things.


2. Writing is both a noun and a verb. Explain.


A: Writing as a noun refers to the thing that is written, whereas Writing as a verb refers to activity of writing.


3. Name the 4 different categories of writing systems.

these categories are logographic, syllabic, alphabetic, and featural.


4. Why are ideographic and pictographic methods NOT considered categories of writing systems?

Because Ideographic is not developed enought and Pictographic is not sufficient to represent a language.

5. Name 10 different types of writing tools and materials.

The writing tools are: stone tablets, clay tablets, wax tablets, vellum, parchment, paper, copperplate, styluses, quills, ink

6. True or False: The difference between prehistory and history is when written records were kept.

Yes, It's true.


7. Who developed the first writing system:

b. Mesopotamians
c. Hittites
d. none of these answers are correct. ( this is my answer, because the first writing were created by the egyptian. just remember the old clay tablets that have been discovered in Egypt!!)

It was the mayas.

The origen of the word alphabet came into Middle English from the Late Latin word Alphabetum.

11. Name 3 types of NON-linear writing systems.

one of the most famous are Braille system, morse code and Cuneiform script, Wich is a kind of pictorial representation.

12. Name 2 examples of NON-alphabetic writing systems.

they can be symbols and sounds. Here's an example.

an arrow wich can indicates a direction, and a groan wich denotes pain.



13. The alphabet helps distinguish between which 2 types of spoken sounds?

yes, thanks the international phonetic alphabet Nonwritten languages and foreign words can be apporoximated to certain sound words.



14. In English, what was The Great Vowel Shift?

The mayor difference between the pronunciation of Middle English and Modern English.
the event wich separates these periods.


15. Japanese is a complicated language not only because there a 3 different forms of the written language and there are at least 14 levels of formality, but because the spoken language originated from the Korean peninsula and the written language originated from China. English has a similar complicated history. Briefly explain the origins of the English language.


several dilects were necessary to create middle english wich now are called old english. which were brought to Great Britain by Anglo-Saxon settlers. therefore, many words have been contructed based on the old english root.

Part of speech (simple definitions)






My own definitions of the following words:

i) noun: It refers to a person, place or thing.

ii) verb: It's an action or state.

iii) adjective: It qualifies nouns.

iv) adverb: It modifies verbs, nouns and adverbs.

v) conjunction It joins words, phrases or sentences.

vi) preposition: It links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words.

vii) subject of a sentence: It's the person or thing which performs the action of a verb.

viii) object of a sentence: It's a person or thing that is affected by the action of a verb.
